respect for themselves and others.
To be successful in life, students must learn respect for themselves
and others, take responsibility for their actions, and develop the
ability to problem-solve. This philosophy permeates through our
curriculum. The alternative learning environment of Stonesoup School
allows us to successfully reach learners who may have difficulty
with the traditional classroom environment. Lesson plans are
modified to meet the individualized needs of each learner. Coursework
is completed independently, in small groups, or in one-on-one tutorials
with teachers. Students who were at-risk of dropping out of conventional
public school have met with great success in the "open-air"
classroom of
Stonesoup School.

We change behavior by developing a positive peer culture with teens who are working to make changes in their lives. Our students develop ownership in our school's community as well as in their own lives by helping to create and enforce school policies. When students have a part in creating rules, they begin to understand the importance of rules, laws, and authority. Our CHARM Program, a systematic method for changing behavior, also incorporates five core values (Compassion, Honesty, Accountability, Respect, Motivation). To learn more about CHARM click here.
Our
educational philosophy requires
students to take an active role in the learning process rather than
be passive observers in a classroom; classes are often held outdoors
or on excursions. A full range of academic classes
are offered at Stonesoup School based on the Sunshine
State Standards approved by the State of Florida Board of Education. Our vocational/elective studies include:
gardening
cooking
carpentry
basic electrical work
plumbing
and automotive work
